Suzanne Larson, Director of Experiential Education at Midwestern University College of Pharmacy, and Gina Luchen, ASHP’s Director of Academic Programs discuss important feedback skills for pharmacy educators. Dr. Larson addresses common preceptor challenges and pearls in preparation for ASHP’s National Pharmacy Preceptors Conference.

Suzanne Larson, Pharm.D. is the Director of Experiential Education at Midwestern University College of Pharmacy in Glendale, Arizona (2011 – present). She received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Creighton University. Larson currently serves as the course coordinator for all Introductory and Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences, as well as didactic courses, Introduction to Pharmacy Practice and Grand Rounds – Clinical Pearls and Peer Feedback. She has provided multiple presentations at the state and national level including AzPA Annual Convention, ASHP Midyear, ASHP National Pharmacy Preceptors Conference, APhA, AACP, CE Impact, McKesson ideaShare, and the Lilly Conference for Evidence-Based Teaching and Learning. In addition to serving on the steering committee for the Midwestern University Clinician Educators Program, she assisted in creating and delivering content for CE Impact Learn to Teach in Practice: A Curriculum for the Clinician Educator, and was one of the original researchers involved in the creation of the Habits of Preceptors Rubric. She is regularly involved in organizing, facilitating, and teaching various state and local preceptor development workshops. Her interests include preceptor development and quality in Experiential Education.
Gina Luchen, Pharm.D. serves as the Director of Academic Programs at ASHP. In this role, Dr. Luchen leads the development and implementation of programs and initiatives related to student pharmacists, schools and colleges of pharmacy, and pharmacy educators. She serves as staff liaison to the Pharmacy Student Forum and Section of Pharmacy Educators. Prior to this role, Dr. Luchen served as an ASHP Executive Fellow in Association Leadership and Management at ASHP. She received her Bachelor’s in Pharmaceutical Studies and Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Kansas School of Pharmacy. Following her studies, she completed a PGY1 Community-Based Residency at the University of Kansas School of Pharmacy in conjunction with Balls Food Stores in Olathe, KS.
