In this podcast Vicki Basalyga ASHP Director of Clinical Specialists and Scientists discusses with Hannah Vanderpool ASHP Vice President of Member Relations and Gina Luchen ASHP Director of Academic programs about the launch of ASHP’s newest Section of Pharmacy Educators.
SPEAKERS
Vicki Basalyga, Pharm.D., BCPS, BCPPS, is the Director for the Section of Clinical Specialists and Scientists. In this role Vicki serves as an information resource and provides guidance to ASHP members regarding science and scientific developments affecting pharmacy practice in health systems. She serves as secretary to the Section executive committee and coordinates activities to accomplish the objectives established by the Section. Additionally, Vicki has assumed the position of Council Secretary for the ASHP's Council on Therapeutics.
Vicki received her Doctor of Pharmacy from Duquesne University and completed an ASHP accredited PGY1 at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, DC. Vicki is also a Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist and a Board Certified Pediatric Pharmacotherapy Specialist.
Prior to her current position at ASHP, Vicki practiced as critical care pharmacist in both the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit and the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, DC. Other activities Vicki performed included drafting policies and procedures, co-chairing the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program, creating and drafting order sets for CPOE conversion and precepting residents and students.
Hannah Vanderpool, Pharm.D., M.A., is the Vice President of Member Relations at ASHP. This position is responsible for organization-wide development and implementation of ASHP’s membership growth and development functions. The Office of Member Relations is responsible for relationships with ASHP’s affiliated state societies, pharmacy practice sections, membership forums, Student Societies of Health-System Pharmacy, and relationships with key partner organizations.
Hannah graduated with her Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from Drake University. She completed a pharmacy practice residency at the University of Illinois at Chicago and was awarded the Richard H. Hutchinson Award for Excellence in Pharmacy Practice. Following the completion of her residency, she joined the faculty at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Pharmacy where she taught in a number of pharmacy practice courses and coordinated experiential education programs. Hannah also received her Master’s degree in Organizational Management from The George Washington University in Washington DC.
Hannah has worked at ASHP since 1997 and has traveled extensively, speaking to practitioners and students about ASHP strategic initiatives and issues in health-system pharmacy.
Gina Luchen, Pharm.D. serves as the Director of Academic Programs at ASHP. In this role, Dr. Luchen leads the development and implementation of programs and initiatives related to student pharmacists, schools and colleges of pharmacy, and pharmacy educators. She serves as staff liaison to the Pharmacy Student Forum and Section of Pharmacy Educators. Prior to this role, Dr. Luchen served as an ASHP Executive Fellow in Association Leadership and Management at ASHP. She received her Bachelor’s in Pharmaceutical Studies and Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Kansas School of Pharmacy. Following her studies, she completed a PGY1 Community-Based Residency at the University of Kansas School of Pharmacy in conjunction with Balls Food Stores in Olathe, KS.
