This podcast explores the ASHP Executive Fellowship in Association Leadership and Management, a paid 12-month postgraduate program at ASHP headquarters in Bethesda, Maryland. In this postgraduate program, fellows are immersed in all aspects of not-for-profit management, while developing their leadership and communication skills, problem-solving techniques, and professional growth. SPEAKERS
Peter Tonsits is a fourth-year pharmacy student from the University of Colorado Skaggs School of Pharmacy. He has extensive pharmacy experience in the hospital and community setting. Peter recently did a virtual six-week rotation with Tom Kraus in Government Affairs, where he was able to work on different projects. After graduation, Peter plans to seek post-doctoral training in oncology, business, or industry.
Rena Sackett, PharmD, BCPS is one of the current Executive Fellows in Association Leadership and Management at ASHP. She completed a PGY1 pharmacy residency at UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and earned her Pharm.D. from Loma Linda University School of Pharmacy in 2019. She previously obtained her B.A. in Spanish with a minor in Chemistry from Walla Walla University. She completed an elective rotation in national association management with ASHP and has served in a number of volunteer leadership capacities including as a delegate for the California Society of Health-System Pharmacists and volunteer on the Membership Committee for the Western Chapter of Pennsylvania Society of Health-System Pharmacists.
Jessie M. Hipple Rosario, Pharm.D., M.M.H.C., is one of the ASHP Executive Fellows in Association Leadership and Management. In this role she receives hands on training in all facets of not-for-profit association management along with direct mentorship from ASHP’s Senior Leadership. Jessie received her Doctor of Pharmacy along with a Master of Management in Health Care degree from Lipscomb University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences prior to completing an ASHP accredited PGY1 pharmacy residency at Maury Regional Medical Center in Tennessee. She previously obtained a Bachelor of Science in Toxicology and an Associate of Applied Science degree in Nanofabrication Manufacturing Technology from The Pennsylvania State University. Jessie is passionate about increasing access to quality healthcare, pharmacy practice advancement, and learning how to become a more effective leader. Upon completion of her Executive Fellowship, Jessie looks forward to applying the skills she has gained to become a leader in healthcare along with doing her part to help move the profession forward.
Sophia R. Chhay, Pharm.D., is the Assistant Director of the ASHP Innovation Center. In this role, Sophia helps lead and manage efforts to implement new programs, and identify new partnerships and collaboration opportunities that support and advance ASHP’s mission and vision. She also provides leadership and management support for strategic planning, external stakeholder engagement, business and program development, executive communications, and operations for the Office of the Chief Operating Officer and Senior Vice President. Sophia received her Pharm.D. from the University of Findlay College of Pharmacy in Ohio before completing a PGY-1 pharmacy residency at the Erie VA Medical Center in Pennsylvania. Prior to joining ASHP as staff, Dr. Chhay was the 2017-2018 ASHP Executive Fellow in Association Leadership and Management. During her year-long fellowship, Dr. Chhay received hands on training in all facets of not-for-profit association management and direct mentorship from ASHP’s Senior Leadership. She also currently serves as the program coordinator for the ASHP Executive Fellowship in Association Leadership and Management.
Karly Low, Pharm.D., is the Director of Membership Development at ASHP. In this role, Dr. Low manages the coordination and implementation of membership and strategic initiatives among current and emerging member constituency groups. She also serves as a staff liaison to the Section of Specialty Pharmacy Practitioners. Prior to this role, Dr. Low completed the ASHP Executive Fellowship in Association Leadership and Management under mentorship from ASHP’s Senior Leadership. Dr. Low received her Pharm.D. from the University of Cincinnati James L. Winkle College of Pharmacy and completed an ASHP-accredited PGY1 residency at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center in Charleston, South Carolina.
Gina Luchen, Pharm.D. serves as the Director of Academic Programs at ASHP. In this role, Dr. Luchen leads the development and implementation of programs and initiatives related to student pharmacists, schools and colleges of pharmacy, and pharmacy educators. She also serves as staff liaison to the Section of Pharmacy Educators and Section of Community Pharmacy Practitioners. Prior to this role, Dr. Luchen served as an ASHP Executive Fellow in Association Leadership and Management at ASHP. She received her Bachelor’s in Pharmaceutical Studies and Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Kansas School of Pharmacy. Following her studies, she completed a PGY1 Community-Based Residency at the University of Kansas School of Pharmacy in conjunction with Balls Food Stores in Olathe, KS.
Bayli Larson, Pharm.D., M.S., BCPS, is Strategic Initiatives Associate at ASHP in Bethesda, MD. In her role she helps manage and lead a variety of collaborative cross-organizational strategic activities to help advance ASHP’s mission and vision. Bayli recently completed the ASHP Executive Fellowship in Association Leadership and Management at ASHP and prior to that completed an ASHP-accredited PGY1 residency at UCHealth Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs, Colo., and earned her Pharm.D. from the University of Colorado Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences in 2018. She previously obtained a bachelor’s degree in Microbiology and a master’s degree in Environmental Health: Toxicology from Colorado State University.
