The Role of the Pharmacist in Clinical Research

This podcast details the role, training, and experience of three pharmacists who work in clinical research. The guests discuss clinical research pharmacy practice at institutional, industry, and federal levels and share advice for pharmacists and pharmacy students who want to start a career in clinical research. This podcast is hosted by Michaela L. Myerson, Pharm.D., who at the time of recording, is a PGY-2 Investigational Drugs and Research resident.

SPEAKERS

Kay WoodsonKay Woodson, RPh (she/her) graduated from Auburn University School of Pharmacy in 1979. Began her career as an inpatient pharmacist at Grady Health System (GHS). She then transferred to the GHS Outpatient Pharmacy and was instrumental in the development of the HIV Pharmacy in the Ponce Center. In 2005, she became Pharmacist of Record in studies conducted by the ACTG, IMPAACT, industry sponsored and Physician initiated studies. Currently, she is a clinical research pharmacist at Morehouse School of Medicine.

Kelsey SchaulsohnKelsey Schaulsohn, PharmD, RPh (she/her/hers) is currently a director of clinical research pharmacy at Pfizer. Before joining Pfizer, she led multiple Medical Affairs functions at both Chiesi and Flexion Therapeutics. Prior to those roles, she was the second clinical research pharmacist at Pfizer where she helped built the clinical research pharmacy team. Kelsey completed a two-year Post-Doctoral Fellowship at Genzyme in Clinical Research and graduated with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Northeastern University.

Mitchell ChanMitchell Chan, PharmD, BCPS (him/he) is a pharmacist and Lieutenant Commander in the US Public Health Service, currently stationed at the FDA in the Oncology Center of Excellence. He is the team lead for Project Facilitate, a national program focused on oncology single patient expanded access. Through his career, Dr. Chan served in a variety of roles in public health and clinical practice on deployments and in his duty stations.

Michaela L. MyersonMichaela L. Myerson, PharmD (she/her/hers) is a passionate emerging clinical pharmacist in the field of investigational drugs and research. At the time of recording, she is a PGY-2 resident at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Dr. Myerson is interested in improving access to healthcare and clinical trials and advocating for scientific advancements for people with rare diseases. Michaela has been awarded by the U.S. Public Health Service and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation for her advocacy work.
