This podcast, hosted by the New Practitioners Forum, features Melanie Dodd, Chair of ASHP House of Delegates, and focuses on advocating for pharmacy within and outside the profession. Dr. Dodd shares her perspectives on her role, professional advocacy, and the impact of the ASHP House of Delegates.
Melanie Dodd, PharmD, PhC, BCPS, FASHP (she/her/hers) is associate dean for clinical affairs and professor in geriatrics at The University of New Mexico College of Pharmacy, where she practices as a pharmacist clinician with prescriptive authority, teaches, and oversees innovative clinical models. Her ASHP service includes chair of Council on Public Policy and Section of Ambulatory Care Practitioners, and a 17-year delegate to the House of Delegates. She currently serves as Chair of the HOD and member of the Board of Directors.
Devin Horinek, PharmD, PhC (he/him/his) is the current PGY1 Pharmacy Resident at Southwest Care Center (SCC) in Albuquerque, NM. He will transition into the role of Pharmacist Clinician at SCC upon completion of his residency. He is grateful to work with ASHP to advance pharmacy practice and is committed to serving the profession. He is an alum of the University of New Mexico College of Pharmacy and has ample experience advocating for pharmacy practice on the local and national level.
Julie Spangler, PharmD, MPH (she/her/hers) graduated with her PharmD from the University of Kansas School of Pharmacy in May 2021. She completed a PGY1/PGY2 Health-System Pharmacy and Leadership (HSPAL) residency at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in May 2023 along with a Master of Public Health (MPH) from the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health. She is an inpatient pharmacy operations manager at UW Health’s University Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin.
