Through a series of podcasts, we will discuss the current state of Specialty Pharmacy during the COVID-19 pandemic and how specialty pharmacy practice has changed. During this podcast, we will discuss on-site and remote staffing models, rotating staff, and other staffing considerations during and beyond the pandemic.
SPEAKERS
Huda-Marie Kandah, Pharm.D., BCPS, CSP, is the Pharmacy Manager of Accreditation, Quality and Residency of the Specialty Pharmacy program at University of Chicago Medicine. She completed her Pharm.D. Degree at Midwestern University Chicago College of Pharmacy in 2012, and completed her post-graduate residency training program at Rush University Medical Center in 2013. Huda has recently transitioned into this new role on April 2020 to lead accreditation of all ambulatory pharmacy programs, including Specialty, Mail Order, and Ambulatory Infusion. Prior to role, she was the Clinical Manager, Specialty Pharmacy and Ambulatory Infusion. Huda also serves as the Residency Program Director of the PGY-2 Specialty Pharmacy Administration and Leadership program. She has successful lead this new program through accreditation through ASHP. Huda is an active member of the ASHP Section of Specialty Pharmacy Practitioners and Vizient. She currently serves in the role of Chair of the Educational Steering Committee. She has contributed to several projects, including the publication of toolkits, articles, and research projects.
Ashley (Kappenman) Ryther is a pharmacy supervisor at the University of Utah Health Pharmacy Ambulatory Clinical Care Center, as well as an adjunct instructor at the University of Utah College of Pharmacy. Ashley received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy. She completed a PGY1/PGY2 Health-System Pharmacy Administration residency at the University of Utah Health and received an MS in Health-System Pharmacy Administration from the University of Utah College of Pharmacy. In her current role, Ashley supervises a team of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and pharmacy interns as the team provides centralized pharmacy services in ambulatory care. These services include URAC and ACHC accredited specialty pharmacy services, as well as prior authorization and refill authorization services. Ashley currently serves as Chair for the ASHP Section Advisory Group on Workforce Development in the Section of Specialty Pharmacy Practitioners. She also serves as Treasurer for the Utah Society of Health-System Pharmacists.
Dr. Julia Chisholm, PharmD, MBA, AAHIVP, is the Ambulatory Pharmacy Operations Manager at University of Missouri Health Care. Dr. Chisholm received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Wyoming School of Pharmacy in 2007 and her MBA from the University of Tennessee – Knoxville in 2018. Her interests are in specialty pharmacy, HIV/AIDs, HCV, clinical oversight and operational management. She has presented nationally on innovation and optimization of pharmacy operations. Dr. Chisholm is the Vice Chair of the ASHP Specialty Pharmacy SAG on workforce development.
