ASHP Task Force on Racial Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

In this podcast, Paul Walker, Vickie Powell, Jeffrey Clark, and Yvette Morrison will discuss the Report on the ASHP Task Force on Racial Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion with host and AJHP Editor in Chief Daniel Cobaugh. They will focus on the genesis of the Task Force and the Report’s recommendations, particularly as they relate to pharmacy leadership and students and schools and colleges of pharmacy, and the effect these recommendations will have on patient care overall.

SPEAKERS

Paul C. Walker, PharmD, FASHP, is Clinical Professor and Assistant Dean at the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy. He received his BS in Pharmacy and PharmD from Wayne State University and completed residency training at Children’s Hospital of Michigan and the University of Tennessee (pediatric pharmacy practice). He is currently serving on ASHP Board of Directors and served as Chair and Board Liaison of the ASHP Task Force on Racial Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

Vickie Powell was born in New Orleans Louisiana and received a Bachelor’s of Science in Pharmacy from, Xavier University, New Orleans, Louisiana; a Master’s of Science degree in Pharmacy Administration from Long Island University, and a PharmD from Howard University, Washington DC. Vickie is the Site Director of Pharmacy Operations at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, ranked number 4 in the Nation by U.S. News and World Report with leading specialists in every field of medicine and a staff dedicated to their patients. The Hospital is affiliated with two of the nation’s leading medical colleges: Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and Weill Cornell Medical College. With its academic affiliates, the Hospital shares a commitment to pursuing clinical excellence, engaging in groundbreaking biomedical research, outstanding medical education, and providing prevention and wellness services to the community. She is a past president of the New York City Society of Health-System Pharmacists. She was installed on May 1st, 2009 as the first African-American president of the New York State Council of Health-system Pharmacists. She has been elected to many positions in the local, state and national society of health system pharmacists. She was inducted as a fellow of the American Society of health-System Pharmacists in 2010.She has been appointed to many ASHP Councils the most recent being the Council on Racial Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. She is a member of Long Island University College of Pharmacy Alumni Board of Directors. . Vickie was awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award from Long Island University and has received numerous awards for her professional contributions. She has been a guest lecturer at the Touro College of Pharmacy and spends time teaching pharmacy students and Residents. Vickie believes in the power of mentoring and her motto is “Each One Teach One”.

Jeffrey Clark is the Chair of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists Pharmacy Student Forum Executive Committee. He has served in various pharmacy leadership roles and has worked to advocate and expand resources for pharmacy students. Jeff earned his Pharm.D. from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine School of Pharmacy and is continuing his professional development at UW Health in Madison, WI as a PGY1/PGY2 Health-System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership resident.

Yvette Morrison received her B.S. in Pharmacy from Southwestern Oklahoma State University College of Pharmacy followed by a post-BS Doctor of Pharmacy degree from The University of Oklahoma College of Pharmacy. She is a board-certified pharmacotherapy specialist and currently serves as the Pharmacy Clinic and Infection Control Manager at the Oklahoma City Indian Clinic, focusing on its COVID-19 pandemic response and vaccine administration program. She is a member of the Chickasaw Native American tribe.
