Jacilyn R. McNulty, PharmD, MBA

Medication Safety Officer

Parkland Health

Texas

My name is Jacilyn McNulty and I graduated from the University of Louisiana in Monroe in 2015, where I obtained my BS in Toxicology. In 2016, I attended Harding University College of Pharmacy in Searcy, Arkansas, where I obtained my PharmD. In 2020, I was fortunate to be able to return home to Dallas, Texas and complete a PGY1/PGY2 Health System Pharmacy Administration Leadership Residency at Parkland Health. As a part of my residency program, I was also able to attain an MBA. After the completion of my residency program in June 2022, I transitioned into the role of Medication Safety Officer at Parkland. During my pharmacy career, I have been a member of ASHP’s New Practitioner Forum, Vizient’s Quality Safety and Compliance Committee and have completed ASHP’s Medication Safety Certificate.

Reasons for selecting this career path:
I have always had the passion for patient care and patient safety. I have two family members that are pharmacists and the impact they have made within their community has always been inspirational. Ultimately, it was my goal to return home after completing pharmacy school to help take care of patients within my community.

As an educator and college professor, my mother always instilled in me the value of being a lifelong learner. It is that drive that propels me to continue forward with my career, remain actively involved in professional organizations and encourage continuous professional development when interacting with pharmacy learners.

Professional Interests:

  • Medication/Patient Safety
  • Administration and Leadership
  • Student/Residency Professional Development
  • Inpatient Operations

Interest in serving on the NPF Executive Committee:
My interest in serving on the NPF Executive Committee stems from my past 3 years of involvement with ASHP. I’ve had the pleasure of serving on various roles within NPF’s Membership and Outreach Advisory Group and each year has brought nothing short of happiness and professional development. I’ve also had great leaders throughout my time in NPF, and their vision and excitement for growth has encouraged me to want to stay involved and help continue their hard work. Being a part of NPF’s Executive Committee will provide me further opportunities to make an impact while also aiding in the development of aspiring pharmacy leaders.

Benefits of being involved in ASHP as a New Practitioner:
There are many benefits to getting involved in ASHP as a New Practitioner. The first 5 years out of pharmacy school can be challenging, and having similar peers to engage with can aid in the transition. There have also been numerous opportunities that I have been awarded by being involved with NPF that has helped me become a better pharmacist, leader, and mentor. To say the least, becoming a part of the ASHP community will definitely provide the following benefits:

  • Leadership opportunities
  • Networking
  • Professional development
  • Mentorship
  • Engagement with student pharmacists
