Matthew H. Rim
2023 Distinguished Service Award Winner
Matthew H. Rim is the system director of ambulatory pharmacy services at Northwestern Medicine in Chicago, Illinois.
Rim received his PharmD from Western University of Health Sciences and MS from University of Utah while completing the two-year health-system pharmacy administration residency at University of Utah Health. Rim has made significant contributions to the advancement of pharmacy practice in ambulatory care settings. Throughout his career, he has successfully led the pharmacy and interdisciplinary teams to implement and manage innovative and value-added programs for patients and health systems, including a pharmacy benefit manager for hospital employees, a centralized refill authorization program for specialty and primary care clinics, a new specialty pharmacy program, a call center for multiple outpatient pharmacy locations, a central prior authorization program, and several new ambulatory pharmacy facilities.
Rim has served in regional and national leadership roles. He has been an active member of the ASHP Section of Specialty Pharmacy Practitioners in various capacities, including section chair, chair of the Committee on Nomination, and member of the Section Advisory Groups. He is also actively involved in the Illinois Council of Health-System Pharmacists and currently serves as the chair of ICHP Specialty Pharmacy Network. As an active member of ASHP, he has served as an educational programming reviewer, student and resident poster mentor, CV reviewer, content matter expert for a workshop, a moderator and presenter of educational sessions, and a speaker of webinars and podcasts. He also serves as a senior consultant for ASHP Consulting Services. Rim is passionate about knowledge sharing and educating practitioners. He published many of the programs that he developed with his colleagues in several peer-reviewed journals. He is an author of the 2023 AJHP publication, National Trends in Prescription Drug Expenditures and Projections. He serves AJHP as the contributing editor of specialty pharmacy, a member of editorial board, and a peer reviewer. He has offered several didactic and experiential courses for PharmD students and precepted many PGY1 and PGY2 residents.
