Kate M. Schaafsma is the Director of Pharmacy for Community Hospital Division with Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) in Milwaukee. As Director, Dr. Schaafsma leads the integration and advancement of pharmacy practice across several hospital locations in addition to facilitating strategy and regulatory compliance across the enterprise. She is an active student and resident preceptor and past program director, and frequent lecturer on practice leadership and pharmacy reimbursement topics. Her previous roles included leading the growth and expansion of retail and specialty pharmacy services with Froedtert & MCW.
Throughout her career, Schaafsma has led workforce development and pharmacy practice advancement across the continuum of pharmacy practice settings. She received her PharmD and MBA degrees from Butler University. She then completed her Masters in Pharmacy Administration from University of Wisconsin in addition to a two-year Health-System Pharmacy Administration Residency.
Dr. Schaafsma has served in state and national leadership roles. She has served on the Pharmacy Society of Wisconsin (PSW) Board of Directors. Historically, she has served on PSW advisory boards and co-chaired a resident collaborative to advance medication adherence and pharmacist competence programs across the state. Dr. Schaafsma served ASHP and the Section of Pharmacy Practice Leaders in a variety of capacities, including serving as Vice Chair and Chair of the Section Educational Steering Committee, Vice Chair and Chair of the Section Advisory Group for Manager Development, and Member of the Section Advisory Groups for Innovation Management and Business Development and System Integration. She served many years as faculty for the Manager’s Boot Camp. Dr. Schaafsma has presented on a variety of topics including leadership development, workforce advancement, and pharmacy practice advancement.
Dr. Schaafsma resides in the Milwaukee suburbs with her husband and three children. She is inspired each day to lead her pharmacy teams to make a positive impact on the health in the communities served.
