Lea S. Eiland
2024 Distinguished Service Award Winner
Lea S. Eiland is a Hill Crest Clinical Professor and associate department head of pharmacy practice at Auburn University Harrison College of Pharmacy. Eiland joined the Auburn faculty in August 2002 and practiced at the Huntsville Hospital Women and Children in the general pediatric inpatient and pediatric intensive care unit settings. She also practiced in the UAB Health Center Huntsville Pediatric Clinic and remains a consultant. She teaches in the areas of pediatrics, drugs in pregnancy and lactation, infectious disease, and leadership. Her career focuses on pharmacy education, leadership, professional organizational service, research/scholarship, and mentorship.
Eiland graduated with her doctor of pharmacy from the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in 2001. She completed an ASHP-accredited pediatric specialty residency at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center at Amarillo in 2002. Eiland is a Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist and Board Certified Pediatric Pharmacy Specialist.
Eiland is active in ASHP, Pediatric Pharmacy Association (PPA), American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP), and American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP). She currently serves on the PPA Board of Directors and continues involvement in ASHP, AACP, and ACCP. She is a Fellow of the ASHP and PPA.
Eiland is a past member of the ASHP Board of Directors, past director-at-large of the ASHP Section of Pharmacy Educators Executive Committee, past chair and director-at-large of the ASHP Section of Clinical Specialists and Scientists Executive Committee, and past Chair of the ASHP Council on Education and Workforce Development. Additionally, she served ASHP in the House of Delegates, on several task forces, and as an SSHP advisor. She also is a past president of the Alabama Society of Health-System Pharmacists.
Eiland remains an active presenter at national and state pharmacy meetings and an author related to pediatric pharmacotherapy and the scholarship of teaching and learning. She is the lead author of ASHP–PPAG Guidelines for Providing Pediatric Pharmacy Services in Hospitals and Health Systems. She is an author and Senior Editor of PPA’s textbook, Advanced Pediatric Therapeutics. Eiland was the Pediatric Section Editor and then managing editor of PharmPrep, ASHP’s NAPLEX® Review, and authored and edited ASHP’s Infectious Disease Pharmacotherapy Self-Assessment. She assisted in designing and co-authoring ASHP’s Pediatric and Pharmacotherapy Board Prep and Recertification materials, Pediatrics Certificate, and Student Leadership Development Program.
