Lois F. Parker
2023 Distinguished Service Award Winner
Lois F. Parker retired in August 2023 after a 42-year career as a clinical pharmacist in Boston. From 2015 until her retirement, she worked as a clinical pharmacist II at Massachusetts Eye and Ear (MEE), a teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School. While there, she developed an inpatient clinical practice, collaborated with the nursing and medical staffs on several important projects, was a super user for the hospital’s EHR implementation, played a leadership role in two successful Joint Commission surveys and precepted over a dozen APPE students from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. Parker was a member of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and delivered several presentations to nurses and physicians.
Before joining the MEE team, Parker was the PICU pharmacist and Pediatric Clinical Lead at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), also a Harvard teaching hospital. During her tenure at MGH, she served as administrator of the hospital’s ACPE-accredited continuing pharmacy education program and participated in many interdisciplinary committees.
Parker received her BS from the University of Connecticut School of Pharmacy.
In addition to serving as program chair for many educational programs at ASHP meetings, Parker has been an engaged ASHP member, serving the Section of Inpatient Care Practitioners (SICP) in a variety of roles. These have included service as a member; vicechair and chair of the Educational Steering Committee; director-at-large on the SICP Executive Committee; and as a member of the SAGs on Medication Safety, Advancing Pharmacy Practice through the Use of Technicians, Compounding, and most recently, Small and Rural Hospitals. Parker has presented at ASHP’s Midyear and Summer Meetings and participated in webinar development. She has also served on the Committee on Nominations, and as an alternate to the ASHP House of Delegates. Parker has reviewed Midyear Clinical Meeting proposals for several years and was recognized as a Fellow of ASHP in 2015.
