Mary Mercer is a Senior Consultant in the Medication Management Solutions division at Becton Dickinson (BD), a global leader in medical technology and innovation. As part of a specialized national team, Mary leads healthcare organizations through implementation strategies for pharmacy automation solutions and inventory management. Cultivating collaborative relationships, she consults on integration across multiple platforms including IT networking, equipment, and software configurations. Engagements also include education for frontline staff, system administrators, pharmacy leadership, and internal resources. Mrs. Mercer provides insight into defining best practices, executing key design decisions, and optimizing critical workflows which impact medication distribution and patient safety. Strengthening industry professionals and colleagues alike, she also leads mentorship and documentation initiatives and works with development teams to enhance product performance. She earned her AS in Healthcare Administration from New England College in 2021 and is currently working toward her BS in Healthcare Administration with a Concentration in Informatics.
Prior to joining BD in 2018, Mrs. Mercer worked at WVU Medicine – Camden Clark Medical Center in Parkersburg, WV where her roles included Pharmacy Buyer, Pyxis Analyst, and 340B Program Manager. While at WVU Medicine, she engaged diverse teams to design, implement, train, and support system-wide changes including Pharmacy Information Systems, Automated Dispensing Cabinets, Inventory Management Carousels, and DSCSA/340B prograMrs. She also served as lead at the health system level for Pharmacy Procurement Program implementations. Mrs. Mercer has been a Pharmacy Technician for 24 years, CPhT certified for 12 years, operating in both retail and hospital pharmacy environments.
Passionate about engaging and empowering pharmacy technicians, Mrs. Mercer is driven to contribute to advancing and elevating the profession of pharmacy on a national level. She joined ASHP’s Pharmacy Technician Forum upon its inception and has been a dedicated member serving on Forum Advisory Groups and Committees for three years. Mary’s first appointment was to the Membership & eCommunications Advisory Group, where her team created flyers and brochures encouraging technicians to experience the benefits ASHP membership. As Co-Chair (2020-21) then Chair (2021-22) of the Educational Steering Committee, Mrs. Mercer guided the development of webinars and toolkits providing learning opportunities and equipping Pharmacy Technicians with tools for career advancement. She enjoys sharing her experiences and knowledge with others. She continues to look for opportunities to “engage. empower. elevate.” the pharmacy profession and pharmacy technicians through education and mentorship.
