Jeff Olson, PharmD, MBA, BCACP ([email protected]), is the pharmacy population health director at Intermountain Health. With over 20 years of ambulatory care experience, Olson has practiced and led ambulatory care pharmacy services at Intermountain, helping expand services with a focus toward value-based care. In his current role, he leads population health strategy, growth, and operations for pharmacy services across the multi-state, integrated health system. He established the PGY2 Ambulatory Care Residency Program, serves as an active preceptor for PGY1 and PGY2 residents, and maintains an adjunct faculty appointment at the University of Utah College of Pharmacy. Olson earned his PharmD and MBA degrees from the University of Utah and completed an ASHP-accredited PGY1 residency at PeaceHealth Southwest in Vancouver, WA. He is board certified in ambulatory care.
Olson’s leadership in ASHP includes serving as Vice Chair and Chair of the Section of Ambulatory Care Practitioners (SACP) Advisory Group on Compensation and Practice Sustainability. He is a frequent speaker at ASHP meetings and webinars. He served as faculty for the ASHP Telehealth Certificate and has participated in several ASHP podcasts. Olson is an author of several ASHP Ambulatory Care Resource Center documents, ASHP Connect blog posts, and ASHP and AJHP publications. He was the recipient of the USHP Linda S. Tyler Innovative Practice of the Year Award in 2023 for leading efforts to establish a virtual hormonal contraception service in Utah. In 2021, he received the ASHP SACP Distinguished Service Award.
Ambulatory Care practice has been my passion for over two decades and there is not a more exciting time than now to be an ambulatory care pharmacist! Opportunities abound for ambulatory care practitioners to fully establish themselves as essential members of the patient care team. As we face an evolving healthcare landscape, avenues for building sustainable practices, expanding scope of practice, and positively influencing patient outcomes lie before us. We must be prepared and motivated to seize the opportunities.
ASHP and the Section provide a wealth of tools and resources to support each member’s professional needs and offers opportunities to collaborate and advocate for the profession. Collectively, the expertise and talent among colleagues in this Section is unmatched. Through the years we have effectively brought together our diverse experiences and perspectives for the benefit of all. Amidst the disruption in healthcare, we must continue to build and share expertise for the benefit of the profession and, most importantly, the patients we serve.
Both ASHP and the Section have served as key contributors to my professional development and continue to provide valuable resources to guide growth in ambulatory care at Intermountain. I have benefitted greatly from the professional connections and collaborations facilitated by the Section. With decades of ambulatory care leadership experience and service within ASHP, I feel prepared to serve as Director-at-Large for the Section. I am honored by the nomination to serve this talented professional community.
