Snehal H. Bhatt, PharmD, BCPS, AACC, FASHP ([email protected]), is a professor of pharmacy practice at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (MCPHS) and a clinical pharmacist at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, in Boston, Massachusetts. He teaches cardiology, anticoagulation, and clinical pharmacokinetics topics, and his practice is acute care cardiovascular medicine. Bhatt has practiced for over 20 years and has maintained his Board-Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS) credentials since 2003.
As an active member of ASHP, Bhatt is a content matter expert and faculty member in ASHP’s BCPS recertification and preparatory course, a position he has held since 2015. He represented ASHP on the Joint Commission Technical Advisory Panel for National Patient Safety Goal 03.05.01-Reducing Harm from Anticoagulant Therapy: Update to Include Direct Oral Anticoagulants (DOACs). He also served on the ASHP Council on Therapeutics for 4 years, serving as Chair in 2019. More recently, Bhatt served on the ASHP Practitioner Recognition Program (FASHP) selection committee for three years, completing his role as Chair in 2024. He was awarded Fellow of ASHP in 2017. Bhatt is also actively involved in the American College of Cardiology (ACC). His leadership roles include serving on the Cardiovascular Team (CVT) Leadership Council, CV Team Regional Director, and the CV Team Education Committee. He previously served as the CV Team Steering Committee Chair for the Northeast Region. Locally for the Massachusetts ACC, he served on the executive committee for 3 years. He was awarded Associate of the ACC in 2018.
As a pharmacy student at Northeastern University, professional involvement in ASHP has been a big part of my life, and ASHP has been my professional home for over two decades. During that time, I have had the privilege of serving ASHP in various ways. At MCPHS, I revived our ASHP student society of health-system pharmacy and founded an annual New England Regional Residency/Fellowship Showcase, which has now passed its 20th consecutive year. The most rewarding ASHP service opportunity was my time on the Council on Therapeutics, where I served for four years and had the privilege of serving as Chair. Since I completed my Council term, serving ASHP has remained a priority. More recently, I have had the honor of serving on the SCSS Meeting Planning Committee, SCSS Committee on Nominations, and the ASHP FASHP Recognition Committee. ASHP and SCSS have given me so much in my career, and the opportunity to serve makes me a better practitioner and educator. I am truly humbled to be slated for Director-at-Large. My career in pharmacy, previous and current service within ASHP, and my role in educating students, residents, and colleagues provide me with unique perspectives on moving the Section's and ASHP's mission forward. In the near future, the Section can lead our profession by developing pharmacy-based AI models that improve pharmacy efficiency and workflow while simultaneously reducing burnout, continuing to champion provider status, and continuing to be a leader with DEI initiatives.
